Marktkauf Meppen relies on digital shelving with PRESTIGEenterprise after new build

For the first time, EDEKA Minden-Hannover is installing a digital shelf and a digital dressing mirror in the Marktkauf store in Meppen. Both solutions are supplied with content by the PRESTIGEenterprise software, which is already being used for print management and the management of counter displays and scales.

Weinheim, 10 January 2018 +++ With the reopening of the Marktkauf store in Meppen, EDEKA Minden-Hannover is pushing ahead with its portfolio of solutions for digital POS communication. For the first time, a digital shelf and screens with a mirror function were installed in Meppen. Both solutions are based on the PRESTIGEenterprise software, a communication platform from market leader Online Software AG. The company specialises in retail solutions that focus on the central management of all POS media - printed, digital and mobile.

The digital shelf can be found in the high-quality spirits section of the store. A selection of different varieties is displayed, including whiskey and gin, which customers can find out more about at the shelf. With detailed information such as origin and flavour, customers can find the right variety. "We want to familiarise customers with products that are not included in their everyday shopping basket," explains Marius Lorenz, the employee responsible for the "Virtual Shelf" project at EDEKA Minden-Hannover.

In a further expansion stage, customers will be able to print out a receipt directly at the shelf so that they can pick up the desired product at the checkout, information desk or goods issue. "The virtual shelf gives us the opportunity to offer our customers a particularly wide range of products. This applies to spirits, for example, but also to ranges that take up a lot of space, such as white goods," summarises Marius Lorenz.

There is also an innovation for the textile sector. A digital mirror is being used here for the first time. This is a screen technology that makes it possible to use a screen both as a mirror and to display promotions. The mirror surface can be used for offers and information when not in use and is transformed into a mirror via a proximity sensor as soon as a customer approaches and wants to use the system as a mirror.

Another digital mirror is used in the immediate vicinity of the customer toilets. Here, customers can take one last look at their appearance if they wish. News, weather and general market information are mainly displayed here. Studies have shown that precisely these topics are perceived as interesting and pleasant by customers.

EDEKA Minden-Hannover has been working successfully with Online Software AG for years in the area of multimedia sales promotion. In addition to a long-standing co-operation in the area of poster and label printing, screens and scales in the EDEKA stores are also controlled with the PRESTIGEenterprise software. The partner company Nexgen smart instore is responsible for installation and maintenance in the stores.

With a view to future technological requirements, the regional company is focussing on long-term security, system stability and flexibility for its retailers. "We deliberately opted for a future-oriented solution that focuses on process optimisation, stability and the future viability of the software, and therefore long-term benefits," explains Marcus Bleidorn, responsible for retail media at EDEKA Minden-Hannover. "For us, PRESTIGEenterprise is the platform with which we can connect and control large parts of the media that are important for retail and also easily integrate new media."
